Chicken prices have risen significantly in the capital’s markets this week, with all varieties seeing an increase of BDT 10 to BDT 30 per kilogram. However, fish prices have remained stable compared to last week.

A visit to Sheorapara and Taltola markets on Friday, December 3, revealed the following trends:

Chicken prices:

  • Broiler chicken: Increased by BDT 10, now selling at BDT 210 per kg.
  • Sonali Cock: Up by BDT 30, priced at BDT 350 per kg.
  • Sonali Hybrid: BDT 320 per kg.
  • Deshi chicken: BDT 550 per kg.
  • Layer (red): BDT 310 per kg.
  • Layer (white): BDT 300 per kg.

Fish prices:

Despite fluctuations in other sectors, fish prices have remained steady:

  • Hilsa:
    • 500g: BDT 1,000/kg
    • 700–800g: BDT 1,550/kg
    • 1kg: BDT 1,800/kg
  • Rui and Shing: BDT 350–450/kg depending on size.
  • Catfish (Magur): BDT 800–1,000/kg.
  • Pangasius (farmed): BDT 200–220/kg.
  • Shrimp: BDT 700–1,100/kg.
  • Tilapia: BDT 220/kg.
  • Other notable prices: Koi (BDT 220–230/kg), Tengra (BDT 500–800/kg), and Rupchanda (BDT 1,200/kg).

Meat and Egg prices:

  • Beef: BDT 650–800/kg.
  • Goat meat: BDT 1,150–1,200/kg.
  • Chicken eggs (red): BDT 140/dozen.
  • Duck eggs: BDT 220/dozen.
  • Deshi chicken eggs: BDT 90 for 4 pieces.

The rising prices of chicken are attributed to increased demand and higher production costs, while the stable fish market reflects consistent supply and demand. Meat and egg prices remain within a predictable range, offering some relief to consumers amid fluctuating poultry prices.
