Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, is scheduled to visit Dhaka in February, marking the first visit by a Pakistani foreign minister to Bangladesh since 2012. The news was reported on Friday, January 3, by Pakistan’s leading daily, The Express Tribune.

During a press conference on Thursday, Ishaq Dar confirmed that the visit is in response to an invitation from Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor, Towhid Hossain. The visit is aimed at enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.

Dar also stated that Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has accepted an invitation to visit Islamabad on a mutually agreed date, signaling further efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties.

The last official visit by a Pakistani foreign minister to Bangladesh was in 2012, when Hina Rabbani Khar visited Dhaka. Her visit was primarily to invite then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to the D-8 Summit, a gathering of eight developing Muslim-majority countries.

This upcoming visit is expected to be a significant step in renewing diplomatic engagement between the two South Asian nations.
