Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has given instructions to strengthen revenue collection to ensure sustainable development of Chattogram city.
He said that although Chattogram is the second largest city and commercial capital of Bangladesh, revenue collection in trade licenses and other sectors is still less than the potential.
To change this situation, the officers and employees of the revenue department will have to be more active, responsible and field-oriented.
The mayor said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting with the revenue department at the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) meeting room at Tiger Pass on Monday.
The meeting was attended by the acting CEO and Secretary of the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Md. Ashraful Amin, Chief Revenue Officer Sarwar Kamal, Revenue Officer Md. Sabbir Rahman Sunny, State Officer Abhishek Das, Chief Accounting Officer Humayun Kabir Chowdhury and regional executive officers.
According to the information presented at the meeting, although it is generally believed that there are more than 1 million small and large businesses in Chattogram city, the number of trade licenses is currently less than 150,000. As a result, a huge amount of potential revenue is not being collected.
Lack of awareness among businessmen, tendency of tax evasion and logistics and exposure deficit of the revenue department were identified as the main reasons for this situation.
It was informed at the meeting that the revenue collection rate has already increased compared to the past few years.
To strengthen revenue collection, tax officers of the license and holding branches, excise officers and license inspectors have been issued vests and ID cards, regular meetings, target setting.
, daily monitoring, circle office visits and field visits have been increased. The mayor said, “The tax money of the city residents is the main power for the development of the city.
Through good governance, accountability and effective revenue management, we will transform Chattogram into a modern and prosperous city.”
