In the attack on police members on duty at a check post in Companiganj Upazila of Sylhet, ASI Abdul Hamid filed a case on Sunday night, naming truck worker leader Mahfuz as the main accused and naming 15 people as the accused, and 70-80 unknown people as the accused.
Confirming the truth of the case, Companiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ratan Sheikh said that a case was filed on Sunday night in the attack on police members.
He said that when the police seized two trucks loaded with sand and stones, the drivers could not show them the documents of the sand and stones and the vehicle. Later, the driver informed the General Secretary of the Truck Workers Union, Mahfuz Ahmed. After a while, two truck workers led by Mahfuz attacked the police members on duty and took the vehicle. They want there to be no police check post here. Why would the police ask for money from them? The police are working to prevent white stone looting and illegal sand mining.
It is worth noting that the attack took place in front of the check post in front of the Upazila Parishad gate on Sunday (October 5) morning. Five policemen were injured in the attack.
The police said that the truck worker leaders and workers led by Mahfuz Ahmed, General Secretary of the Upazila Truck Workers Union, carried out the attack. In the incident, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Companiganj Police Station Abdul Hamid, Constable Azizur Rahman, Dipankar Hajong, Shahid Ahmed and Masek Mia were injured.
In this regard, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the police station, who was on duty at the check post, Abdul Hamid, said, “While we were on duty at the check post, a truck carrying sand arrived. When we asked him to show the legal sand documents, he could not show them. Later, we stopped the truck. Later, I saw who the driver was calling and 15-20 minutes later, a group of people led by truck worker leader Mahfuz came and attacked us. There, 5 of us were injured and went to the Upazila Health Complex for treatment. Illegal sand was extracted from various places including the Dhalai River in the Upazila and illegal stones were sold. They were seized through this check post. This operation is ongoing to prevent looting of white stones.’
