In a tragic turn of events, a cloth trader in the Jatrabari area of the city took his own life due to overwhelming debt pressures.
The deceased, identified as Jewel Molla, aged 35 and son of Md. Alauddin, succumbed to the mental anguish caused by his financial burdens, as relayed by relatives.
The distressing incident occurred at a residence in Mir Hazir Bagh, Dakshin Jatrabari, on Sunday afternoon. Subsequently, upon receiving notification, law enforcement swiftly responded, recovering the body.
It was then transported to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) mortuary for an autopsy.
Jatrabari police station sub-inspector (SI) Nur Mohammad confirmed the matter to the media and said, “We got the information from one of his relatives that the person was a cloth merchant.”
Due to bad business, he got into debt and broke down mentally. SI said he lived alone in that house. At night, he hanged himself with a sheet and a ceiling fan in his room.
