Staff Reporter :
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) employees confined its Vice-Chancellor Sharfuddin Ahmed on Saturday demanding their rules and regulation as the VC’s tenure will end this month.

During the movement of confining VC’s office scuffling occurred between the pro-VC people and the protestors twice which left two persons injured.

“We demanded rules and regulations for the BSMMU employees like Dhaka University.

But the VC ignored us for all of his tenure. Now he asked us to join work but we confined his office,” said Dipu, a leader of employees.

The scuffles and protesting created panic among the physicians, nurses, students and patients in the BSMMU.

Besides, Subrata Biswas, public relations officer of BSMMU told the media that there was no serious incident.

He said it was a simple protesting from the employees and the VC was not in office during the confining programme.

Later, VC Sharfuddin Ahmed said that they were trying to hold a meeting on academic council.

But several doctors asked me not to hold the meeting now as his tenure will end on March 28.

Besides, we found that several people were creating noise there, he said.

“I also think that in the last stage of my tenure such a meeting is not necessary.

So that the meeting was not conducted,” the VC said.

Meanwhile, sources said there are several syndicates in the university. Their internal conflicts have created such chaotic situations.
