The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) detained a Bangladeshi youth, Azinur Rahman, 24, from the border area of Baura Union in Lalmonirhat’s Patgram upazila on Friday.

According to local sources, Azinur was picked up between 2:00pm and 3:00pm near border pillar No. 801 and sub-pillar No. 10-11 in Jamgram (Dangatari) village. He is the son of Nur Hossain, a resident of the same village. Ashadul Haque, member of Ward No. 1 of Baura Union Parishad, confirmed the incident.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local authorities reported that Azinur had crossed into Indian territory, where a patrol team of BSF’s 30 Battalion from Cooch Behar district apprehended him on suspicion of smuggling. He was later taken to a nearby BSF camp.

Commander Selim Aldin of BGB 51 Battalion stated that Azinur had illegally entered India and was returning with cattle when locals reportedly handed him over to the BSF. The BSF claims to have CCTV footage and additional evidence related to the incident. Both Azinur and the cattle remain in BSF custody.

In response, the BGB’s Dangatari camp called for a flag meeting to address the matter. The BSF has agreed to hold the meeting on Saturday.
