Police have arrested a woman on suspicion of murdering her two young children in a rented apartment in Gazipur’s Tongi area.
Aleya Begum, 30, was taken into custody on Friday night, Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Deputy Commissioner NM Nasir Uddin confirmed in a media statement on Saturday afternoon. “The case is currently under investigation,” added GMP Additional Commissioner Zahid Hasan.
The bloodied bodies of 6-year-old Maliha Akter and 4-year-old Mohammad Abdullah were discovered on Friday evening at the family’s flat in the Arichpur (Jamai Bazar) area.
Later that night, their father, Abdul Baten Mia, filed a case against unidentified individuals. Baten, a transport businessman originally from Tatuakandi village in Brahmanbaria, lives with his family on the third floor of an eight-storey building named Setu Villa.
