Asif made NCP spokesperson
Staff Reporter :
Former adviser to the interim government Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has formally joined the National Citizen Party (NCP) and has been appointed as its spokesperson.
The announcement was made by NCP Convener Nahid Islam at a press conference held on Monday at the party’s headquarters in Banglamotor.
Nahid Islam said Asif Mahmud will not contest the upcoming national election and will instead focus on organisational and campaign responsibilities.
According to the NCP convener, Asif Mahmud has been entrusted with the role of spokesperson and will work to ensure the victory of NCP candidates in the 13th parliamentary election.
Asif Mahmud had earlier resigned from the council of advisers on 10 December, when he stated that he intended to take part in the forthcoming national election.
However, party sources now say he will not be participating in the polls at this stage and has taken on the spokesperson role instead.
Previously, Asif Mahmud collected nomination papers to contest from the Dhaka-10 constituency, while his supporters also collected nomination papers on his behalf from the Cumilla-3 constituency.
As of this evening, there has been no confirmation that nomination papers from either constituency have been submitted.
