Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a microbus and a passenger bus coming from the opposite direction in Ishwardi. Eight more people were injured in the accident that happened on the Kushtia-Natore highway. The accident happened at Mirkamari Purvapara village of the upazila at 7:50 am on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Naseem (45) son of Abdur Rauf of Sheikhpara village in Ishwardi and Amit Kundu (40) son of Subrata Kumar Kundu of Radhanagar area of Pabna Sadar. Both of them were officers of Renaissance Limited in Ishwardi EPZ.
Asish Sanyal, OC of Pakshi Highway Police Station, said, ‘In the morning, a microbus (Dhaka Metro-Ch-16-0871) coming from Pabna direction towards Kushtia was hit by a passenger bus (Dhaka Metro-B-15-5370) leaving Kushtia at a fast and reckless speed.) Two were killed and eight injured in the face-on collision.
The condition of three of the injured is critical.
Ishwardi health officer Dr.Asma Khan said, “Two died before being brought to the hospital. Apart from this, as the condition of three people is critical, they have been shifted to Pabna for better treatment. Others were released after first aid.”
The microbus and passenger bus involved in the accident are in the custody of Pakshi Highway Police Station. Badiuzzaman Manik, the sister-in-law of Nasim, who was killed in the incident, filed a case with the Highway Police as the plaintiff.
