Türkiye keen to boost investment in Bangladesh

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye Hakan Fidan and Khalilur Rahman, Bangladesh Foreign Minister held a bilateral meeting in Ankara on Saturday, placing strong emphasis on expanding Turkish investment in Bangladesh and deepening economic cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting took place at the office of the Turkish foreign minister and was also attended by Bangladesh’s Foreign Adviser to the Prime Minister, Humaiun Kobir.

It was the first bilateral meeting between the two foreign ministers following the formation of Bangladesh’s newly elected government.

During the talks, the Bangladesh foreign minister highlighted the importance of increasing foreign investment from Türkiye, particularly in sectors where Turkish companies have strong expertise.

He also underscored the potential for expanding the export of skilled Bangladeshi workers to Türkiye.
Both sides reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Türkiye and expressed satisfaction over the growing cooperation in trade, investment and diplomatic engagement.

Speaking at a joint press briefing after the meeting, the two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding friendly and brotherly ties between the two countries.

They also exchanged views on regional and global issues and reiterated their support for peace efforts concerning Gaza Strip. To enhance institutional cooperation, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Diplomacy Academy of Türkiye and the Bangladesh Foreign Service Academy aimed at strengthening diplomatic training and capacity building.

Later, Hakan Fidan hosted an iftar and working dinner in honour of the visiting Bangladeshi delegation, where discussions continued on various aspects of bilateral cooperation.
Türkiye also reiterated its strong support for Bangladesh’s candidacy for the presidency of the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Both sides expressed optimism that the outcomes of the meeting would help expand economic engagement, particularly Turkish investment, and further deepen the strategic partnership between Bangladesh and Türkiye in the coming years.
