DMP moves to control vehicular movement in JS session
Traffic in parts of the capital will be diverted on Thursday to facilitate the movement of dignitaries who will be attending the 13th Parliament’s first session at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The president, the prime minister, members of parliament, foreign diplomats, leaders of various political parties, and other dignitaries are expected to attend the session, according to a notice issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), reports UNB.
The event will increase vehicle volume through Urojahaj Mor, Khejur Bagan, Manik Mia Avenue, Asad Gate, and the July Memorial Museum (Ganabhaban) intersection, likely causing temporary traffic congestion nearby.
To ease traffic flow, the DMP Traffic Division will regulate vehicular movement through diversions from 8:00am to 11:00am on Thursday.
Under the arrangement, vehicles travelling from Indira Road towards Begum Rokeya Sarani via Urojahaj Mor will not be allowed to turn right. Instead, they will have to proceed straight through Manik Mia Avenue and Mirpur Road to reach their destinations.
Similarly, vehicles moving from Manik Mia Avenue towards Begum Rokeya Sarani via Khejur Bagan will not be permitted to turn left and will be redirected through Farmgate.
During the specified period, vehicles will be allowed to move one-way southbound on both sides of the road from Urojahaj Mor to Khejur Bagan.
The DMP urged drivers to follow traffic instructions to avoid congestion and ensure a smooth movement of vehicles.
