‘Family Card strengthens women’s empowerment’

Thakurgaon Correspondent :

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “We have no other interests, we will not build elite houses in Dhaka or houses in Canada.

We have come here to work and we will work. If anyone gets involved with corruption, there will be no forgiveness for them. You can rest assured about this.”

He said these words at a family card distribution programme held on Tuesday afternoon at Alim Madrasa premises of Rahimanpur Union of Sadar Upazila, organised by Thakurgaon District Administration.

On family card and women’s empowerment, Mirza Alamgir said, “Family card is not just an identity card, it is a symbol of power and strength.

Through this card, the women heads of families will not only receive financial benefits but their position in society will also be strengthened and it will play an important role in women’s empowerment.”

Mirza Alamgir said, “We have already suffered a lot of losses. Let us not look back anymore. Let us look forward and see how we can make the country beautiful, how we can work well, educate the children, arrange employment for them, ensure quality healthcare services—let us all do these tasks together.”

He said, “It has been only 22 days since we came to power, and already Tk 10,000 agricultural loans have been suspended.

Canal excavation has started so that farmers can get irrigation facilities in the dry season.
Family card distribution has also begun on Tuesday.

The country has been deprived of many development works in the past 15 years. To fill that gap, the government has started working fast.

Works are underway to reopen the much-awaited airport of Thakurgaon residents, establish a medical college and university, and develop communications and education sectors.”

At this time, as part of the inauguration, the invited guests handed over representative family cards to several women of Ward No. 2 of Rahimanpur Union.

Those present at the programme also included MP from Thakurgaon-2 Dr. Abdus Salam, Divisional Commissioner Shahidul Islam, Deputy Commissioner Ishrat Farzana, Police Super Belal Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khairul Islam, District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, among others.

It is mentionable that as part of the election pledge, the government has started this pilot project nationwide where initially family cards are being distributed conditionally in various unions of 14 upazilas across the country.

As part of this, 588 women from Ward No. 2 of Rahimanpur Union of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila will receive this facility. Under the supervision of a special committee, data was collected from every house and preliminary survey was conducted.

Initially, names of 1,035 women from Ward No. 2 appeared on the preliminary list. Overcoming ID card complications, data of 1,010 people were uploaded to the server. Through the ministry’s app, 588 eligible women were selected based on automatic scoring.
