City Desk :

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam and State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat on Thursday directed Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) officials to ensure expatriate-friendly services at airports and enforce a zero-tolerance policy against irregularities. The directives came during a views exchange meeting with CAAB officials and staff at the authority’s headquarters in Kurmitola here.

At the outset, officials briefed the ministers on the history of the CAAB and its key role in managing the country’s airspace and aviation infrastructure. Later, the minister and the state minister visited the Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) to review the progress of its implementation, reports BSS.

They urged all concerned to extend full cooperation to ensure the terminal is opened for public use at the earliest possible time.

During the visit, they also inspected the cargo village and import cargo terminal that were recently damaged by fire and observed the current situation.

Speaking with staff on duty at the airport lounge, the minister stressed the need to improve service standards for passengers arriving from abroad, particularly expatriate Bangladeshis.

“Our expatriate brothers and sisters must not face hardship at the airport. Their hard-earned remittances make a vital contribution to the national economy, and they deserve the highest respect and sincere service,” Afroza said.
She also announced that the ministry would conduct surprise inspections to ensure service quality at airports.

State Minister Rashiduzzaman Millat emphasised greater respect for expatriate workers and urged officials to address them courteously. He also directed officials to maintain cleanliness across airport facilities, strengthen monitoring systems and ensure that all personnel perform their duties properly.

The state minister further instructed authorities to remain vigilant to prevent any future fire incidents or security risks and to strengthen accountability at all levels to ensure quality passenger services.

Officials present at the meeting expressed their commitment to improving service standards and ensuring a passenger-friendly environment at the airport.

Among others, Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Secretary Nasreen Jahan and CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal Mostafa Mahmud Siddique attended the meeting along with senior officials of the ministry and the aviation authority.
