4 arrested in recovered schoolboy kidnapping case
City Desk :
Police arrested four people involved in the kidnapping a schoolboy. The incident was resolved within just two hours, with the schoolboy rescued with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s intervention.
Ramna Division deputy police commissioner (DC) Masud Alam shared this information at a press conference held at the DMP Media Center on Thursday.
The arrested persons are Tanvir Ahmed alias Fahim (23), Ishraque Yamin Likhon (20), Hasan Al Banna alias Haslam (21) and Mostafiz Rahman Punjo (22).
Police say that there are 10-12 people in the gang. They lure young people with various temptations including drugs and extort ransom.
Last Tuesday, Secretariat employee Khandaker Shamim went to the Prime Minister and said that his school-going son had been kidnapped.
The Prime Minister asked the appropriate authorities to take immediate action after hearing the news. Within two hours, the schoolboy was rescued from an under-construction building in Khilgaon of the city. However, the police could not arrest anyone involved in the incident that day.
DC Masud Alam said at a press conference, “We did not know anything about the accused. We heard some descriptions from the victim boy, and able to identify five of them by watching the CCTV videos in the vicinity.”
Stating that there are 10-12 people in this gang, he said, “The videos I have found on the mobile phones of the arrested people are shocking. They target someone and call them with bait. They knock on different people on WhatsApp and Telegram and talk about drugs.
Sometimes they say that they will get drugs if they come here. Some say that there are various traps like they can talk to girls, etc. They also knocked on this boy on Telegram saying something. They said, “Come, let’s talk a little.” They showed some greed or temptation, and the boy also fell into the trap.”
DC Masud has also said that the schoolboy’s school was closed, and he went that day with his bicycle from home. Hopefully, we can bring the rest of those involved to justice.
