Youth must be protected from the terrible threat of drugs

WE all want a drug-free society.

We want the youth to focus on building the country instead of being addicted to drugs. We also want the youth becoming leaders of the nation? But unfortunately, the poison of drugs cannot be eradicated from the veins and arteries of society. Drug addiction is gradually taking a terrible form.

According to a newspaper report, the amount of Yaba seized has doubled in the last year. While more than 22.857 million pieces of Yaba tablets were seized in 2024, it increased to 43.562 million pieces in 2025.

These tablets were seized in a joint operation by the Narcotics Control Department, police, RAB and Coast Guard. The people concerned said that the double seizure is due to an increase in the amount of drug smuggling.

This terrible drug situation did not happen in a day. In the last 16 years, the amount of drug seizures has increased 329 times.

That is, this trend is increasing year by year. During the interim government, many hoped that the situation would change. But in reality, the opposite has happened. The terrible grip of drugs has gradually expanded.

More or less everyone knows how the drug trade works. Drug addicts can be seen sitting in public places during the day and night. These spots should not remain unknown to the police force. There are also many allegations of green signals and immoral collusion from those in power.

Drug addicts pose a threat to the state, society, and even the family. Many parents are worried about their young children.

Many get involved in other crimes to earn money from drugs. Criminologists believe that controlling the drug trade is not at all difficult if the police want to do so, because the police are not unaware of who is selling drugs, where and how.

Youth is the main strength of any country. If that youth is gradually progressing on the path of destruction like this, then it is natural to raise concerns about the future of this country.

Law enforcement agencies must be stricter. Trials in drug cases must be expedited. Those involved in smuggling syndicates and drug trafficking must be severely punished.

An elected government has come to power in the country. People have high expectations from the new political government.

We hope that the new government will take extensive initiatives to protect society from deadly threats like drugs. We also believe that the government officials will think deeply about the matter.
