Islamabad has reaffirmed its strong commitment to deepening bilateral ties with Dhaka, signaling a keen interest in expanding cooperation across various sectors for the mutual benefit of both nations.

Pakistani High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Imran Haider, expressed his government’s desire to work closely with Bangladesh’s new government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to build a more comprehensive partnership.

During a courtesy call to Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, High Commissioner Haider conveyed Pakistan’s eagerness to explore new avenues of collaboration, particularly in areas such as education, trade, agriculture, connectivity, and health.

“We are keen to broaden and strengthen our bilateral cooperation in all these vital areas for the welfare of our peoples,” said Haider, emphasising the importance of fostering deeper ties between the two neighboring countries.

Foreign Minister Dr. Rahman welcomed the High Commissioner and expressed his government’s readiness to explore new channels for cooperation. He also highlighted Bangladesh’s priority of advancing regional cooperation, not just with Pakistan but across South Asia, to benefit the entire region.

“Strengthening regional cooperation is essential for the prosperity of our peoples,” Dr. Rahman said.
“We aim to explore areas where our two countries can work together for mutual growth and regional stability,” he continued.

The meeting between Haider and Dr. Rahman was marked by constructive dialogue on how to enhance cooperation, especially through bilateral institutional mechanisms.

Haider noted that there has been positive momentum across multiple areas of collaboration between the two countries, which has furthered the strengthening of their bilateral ties.

“Pakistan and Bangladesh share common faith, a rich history, and deep cultural ties. These strong foundations have always supported our cooperation,” Haider remarked, highlighting the shared cultural affinities and familial bonds that connect the two nations.

Both sides agreed that expanding cooperation through people-to-people exchanges, trade, and education would benefit their populations.

They also discussed how Bangladesh and Pakistan can collaborate more effectively at multilateral fora, such as the United Nations, to address regional and global challenges.

Later, the High Commissioner met with State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shama Obaed Islam, and congratulated her on assuming office.

During the meeting, they discussed the ongoing cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh, noting that relations have been positively evolving across political, cultural, educational, and economic domains.

“We are moving on a positive trajectory, and both countries must now focus on further enhancing engagement in all sectors,” she emphasised.

“We need to harness the full potential of our bilateral relations for the benefit of our people,” she continued.
The discussions concluded with both sides agreeing to pursue a forward-looking approach to strengthening bilateral ties, based on mutual respect and sovereign equality.

They also reiterated their commitment to expanding cooperation, with a focus on fostering trust, understanding, and collaboration in the coming years.
