Deposits of 6 candidates confiscated in Pabna-3

The deposits of six MP candidates contesting the 13th National Parliament election in Pabna-3 (Chatmohar-Bhangura-Faridpur) constituency have been confiscated. They are BNP rebel candidate (independent), former MP KM Anwarul Islam Ghora, People’s Rights Council candidate Hasanul Islam Raja (truck), Islami Andolan Bangladesh nominated candidate Md. Abdul Khalek (fan), Jatiya Party’s Mir Nadim Mohammad Dablu (plough), Bangladesh Supreme Party’s Mahbubur Rahman Joy Chowdhury (Ektara) and Gono Forum nominated candidate Sardar Asha Parvez (Udiyaman Surya). According to the Upazila Election Office, the total number of votes in Pabna-3 constituency is 4 lakh 86 thousand 804. The total number of votes cast in this election is 3 lakh 41 thousand 811. The percentage of votes cast is 70.22%.

Of these, BNP’s rebel candidate, former MP KM Anwarul Islam got 38 thousand 27 votes, People’s Rights Council candidate Hasanul Islam Raja got 986 votes, Jatiya Party’s Mir Nadim Mohammad Dablu got 1072 votes, Islami Andolon Bangladesh’s Abdul Khalek got 1 thousand 769 votes, Bangladesh Supreme Party’s Mahbubur Rahman Joy Chowdhury got 1 thousand 420 votes and Gano Forum’s Sardar Asha Parvez got 173 votes.

According to the election policy, to get the deposit money back, you have to get 1/8th of the total votes cast. But the number of votes cast by those 6 candidates is much less than 1/8th of the votes cast. That is why their deposits have been confiscated.
