The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has welcomed the conduct of Bangladesh’s parliamentary elections, describing the process as peaceful and the outcome as conclusive.

In a statement issued on Friday, the FCDO said the elections, held on 12 February 2026, marked “an important step forward” in line with the aspirations of the Bangladeshi people and the country’s broader national ambitions.

The statement, released by the UK government department alongside comments attributed to Seema Malhotra and Yvette Cooper, noted that the peaceful electoral process had delivered clear results.

“We welcome the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh which took place on 12 February 2026.

The peaceful electoral process delivered conclusive results. This represents an important step forward in Bangladesh’s ambitions and the aspirations of the people of Bangladesh,” an FCDO spokesperson said.

The UK also expressed readiness to engage with the incoming administration, emphasising cooperation on democratic, economic and social reforms.

“We look forward to the new government advancing democratic, economic, and social reforms. We will work closely with Bangladesh on our shared

priorities of economic growth, migration, climate and security, building on the strong connections between our people,” the statement added.

The remarks signal London’s intent to maintain and deepen bilateral ties with Dhaka, particularly in areas such as trade, climate action, migration management and regional security cooperation.
