People, not elites, set right course in crises: Moyeen Khan

Staff Reporter :

Abdul Moyeen Khan has said that the people of Bangladesh have consistently made the right decisions during times of political crisis, guiding the country back to stability whenever turbulence has arisen.

Speaking to journalists on Friday after visiting his father’s grave at his ancestral home in Charangardi, Palash, following his party’s landslide victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Election, the BNP Standing Committee member reflected on the country’s political trajectory over the past 55 years.

He said that whenever political crises have emerged in Bangladesh, it was the people who ultimately chose the correct course.

Referring to widespread speculation and opinion polls circulated on social media ahead of the election, Moyeen Khan said that despite numerous predictions and rumors, the people once again demonstrated sound judgment at the ballot box.

“When politicians made mistakes, when economists erred, when intellectuals, teachers, or members of the elite failed, the ordinary people of Bangladesh did not,” he said.

Emphasizing his personal commitment to public service, he added, “Wealth, power, and luxury hold no value for me. The people of Bangladesh know that I do politics for them, not for myself.” He described himself as a servant and worker of the people.

On democracy, Moyeen Khan noted that the foundation of Bangladesh’s democratic journey was laid during the Liberation War, whose principal objectives were the establishment of democracy and economic development. It was with these two goals, he said, that Bangladesh emerged as an independent state on the world map.

He suggested that the latest election results once again reaffirmed the people’s decisive role in steering the nation through political uncertainty toward stability and democratic continuity.
