Fire set outside independent MP candidate’s office

Fire set on just in front of the office of (now defunct) The Daily Dakkhin Kantha belonging to M A H Selim, an independent MP candidate (Horse symbol) for Bagerhat-2 (Bagerhat Sadar and Kachua Upazilas) constituency near at Bagerhat stadium in Bagerhat district town on Thursday afternoon by some alleged miscreants.

Being informed of the matter a contingent of the local Fire Service and Civil Defense unit rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after fighting for half an hour. But by this time a speed boat and some trees of different kinds in front of the newspaper office were burnt completely.

It may be mentioned here that M A H Selim who is and industrialist of the country and former (BNP) MP of the constituency (Bagerhat-2) installed a signboard as the site for a Medical College and Hospital in front of the newspaper office building.

Mehedi Hasan Prince, the eldest son of M A H Selim told, my father have a long desire to establish a medical college and hospital for the people of Bagerhat and with this end view the site was also selected; but due to the strong hostility of the dethroned Awami fascist Government the desire of my father could not be materialized.

He added, my father is contesting in the 13th National Parliamentary election from Bagerhat constituency-2 as an independent candidate with horse symbol.

But out of zealously of my father’s popularity our election campaigning is being hampered, harassed and disturbed in various ways by the opponents.

Not only that but also workers are being threatened from the very beginning of February 02 and at last they set fire on the establishment of the proposed Medical College and Hospital and someone is making somewhat opaque the situation.

The matter was brought to the notice of the police; but nothing was done to solve the matter.
