Justice Farah Mahbub appointed BJSC chairman
Staff Reporter :
Justice Farah Mahbub of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has been appointed as the new chairman of the Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission (BJSC).
The appointment was made by the President through a gazette notification issued today by the Law and Justice Division. The notification, signed by its Secretary Liaquet Ali Molla, stated that the appointment was made in accordance with Rule 3(2)(Ka) of the Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission Rules, 2007.
According to the gazette, Justice Farah Mahbub will assume the responsibilities of the post with immediate effect.
The appointment comes at a time when the Judicial Service Commission continues to play a crucial role in ensuring transparency, merit-based recruitment and discipline within the country’s lower judiciary.
The BJSC is constitutionally mandated to oversee the selection, appointment and service-related matters of judicial officers, a responsibility considered vital for maintaining judicial independence and strengthening the rule of law.
Justice Farah Mahbub, a senior judge of the Appellate Division, brings long-standing judicial experience to the commission. Her appointment follows the completion of the tenure of the previous chairman, as part of the routine institutional process of reconstitution of the commission in line with existing rules.
Legal experts and members of the judiciary have viewed the appointment as an important step toward ensuring continuity and stability in the functioning of the Judicial Service Commission.
