Come back home if you’re brave enough: Adviser to Hasina
News Desk :
Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury says that former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy should return to Bangladesh before speaking out, if they are brave enough to do so.
He made the remarks in response to questions from the media after the closing ceremony of the 104th recruitment parade at the Border Guard Bangladesh Training Center and College located in Chattogram’s Satkania Upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
A journalist asked whether remarks by Hasina and Joy that threaten unrest ahead of the election could deter voters, reports bdnews24.com.
Jahangir said, “You are not worried yourself. They are making different statements from a distance. If they had so much courage, they would have returned home. They have fled from here to other places. Thieves often talk a lot.
“They have fled and they are speaking out after fleeing elsewhere. Why should anyone be worried about them? If they have the courage, let them return home. Let them take refuge under the law. Let them speak their mind. If they speak after fleeing to another country, it is meaningless.”
Asked what security measures have been taken for the polls and what has been done to confront those sowing unrest, the advisor said: “The number of law enforcers is being increased to handle those who would create unrest surrounding the election. No one will be able to cause any disruptions. If you all cooperate, the election will be very peaceful.”
Jahangir, the chief guest at the closing ceremony, said in his speech at the event: “Around 897,117 members of law-enforcing agencies will be on duty to create a free, fair, peaceful, and festive atmosphere for the 13th national elections.
“I am giving you clear instructions to completely refrain from any kind of unethical, biased or irresponsible behaviour and activities that may affect or disrupt the elections.”
