Poacher nabbed in Sundarbans

Forest guards arrested a poacher along with a deer trapped in a snare in the Kachikhali Dimerchar area of the Eastern Sundarbans on Wednesday afternoon.
The deer was rescued from the trap and released into the Sundarbans. According to the forest department sources, a contingent of forest guards led by Forester Md. Mizanur Rahman, Officer-in-charge of the Kachikhali Sanctuary Center of the Sharankhola Range of the Eastern Sundarbans Forest Division under Bagerhat district, were discharging their patrol duties on foot in the Dimerchar forest area of the Sundarbans on Wednesday and found deer hunting garlands and a spotted deer trapped in a snare spread across a wide area in the forest.
The forest guards searched the forest and were able to arrest a poacher red-handed. At that time, two other poachers fled away into the deep forest.
The arrested poacher is one Abdul Hakim (40) hails from Baraitala village under Patharghata Upazila in Barguna district. Forest guards have seized a large amount of garlands and snares and 07 plastic bags from the spot.
Forester Md. MizanurRahman, Officer-in-charge of the Kachikhali Sanctuary Center under the Sharankhola Range of the Sundarbanswithin the Eastern Forest Division said that the deer, which was rescued from the hunter’s leaf trap in Dimerchar, was immediately released into the Sundarbans.
The Officer-in-charge told,in this connection a case waslodged with the local PS (Police Station) against the arrested accused under the Forest Act and he was sent to the court at Bagerhat district headquarters.
