Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has called on members of the police force to carry out their election-related duties with the highest level of responsibility, integrity and professionalism, stressing that neutrality is essential to maintaining public trust in the electoral process.
“Every police member deployed in the field during elections will represent the trust of the people. The police must act in a neutral manner,” he said.
The home adviser made the remarks on Sunday afternoon while inspecting a training workshop at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Training Academy in Rajarbagh. The workshop is aimed at enhancing the efficiency and capacity of police personnel tasked with election duties ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.
During the inspection, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury issued directives outlining the responsibilities of police personnel during the pre-election period, on polling day and in the post-election phase. He underscored that conducting national elections is a major responsibility of the state and that the police play a critical role in ensuring a free, fair and peaceful voting environment.
The adviser also said the government has taken comprehensive preparations to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming national parliamentary elections, noting that effective law enforcement will be central to maintaining order and public confidence throughout the process.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali, Additional IGP (Development) of Police Headquarters Sardar Nurul Amin, and Additional Police Commissioner (Admin) of the DMP Md. Sarwar were present during the inspection, along with other senior officials of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The inspection covered the 23rd batch of a three-day training workshop organised to strengthen the capacity and operational readiness of police personnel ahead of the 13th National Parliament Election and the referendum.
According to police officials, 22 batches of the training programme have already been completed, with 18,150 police personnel trained so far.
The initiative aims to train a total of 24,342 personnel through 28 batches at 19 venues across the DMP area.
The authorities say the training focuses on ensuring professionalism, discipline and adherence to electoral laws, as the police prepare to play a key role in maintaining security and public order during the upcoming polls.
