PHP Motors brings Toyota-backed Perodua cars to local market

Business Desk :

PHP Motors introduced the Malaysian brand Perodua to Bangladesh in May 2024, offering brand-new sedans and SUVs powered by Toyota’s Dual VVT-i engines at prices comparable to reconditioned imports. The move has attracted attention in a market where new cars remain expensive due to high taxes, though it also sparked curiosity about the technology and pricing.
At PHP Motors’ Bahaddarhat showroom in Chattogram, Vice Chairman Mohammad Mohsin explained that Perodua is a long-standing joint venture between Malaysian manufacturers and Toyota, which holds a 20 percent stake. The partnership allows Perodua to use Toyota engines and select components while sourcing the rest locally to maintain competitive pricing. “The engines are Japanese Toyota units, and buyers can see them for themselves,” Mohsin said.
PHP Motors currently offers four Perodua models in Bangladesh. The Aruz is a seven-seater SUV with a 1496cc engine, six airbags, 360-degree sensors, and flexible luggage space. The Myvi is a compact hatchback with a 1500cc engine, ECO Idle system, and modern safety features. The Bezza is a fuel-efficient sedan with a 1329cc engine, 508-litre trunk, and ABS with EBD. The Axia, an entry-level hatchback, offers a 1000cc VVT-i engine delivering around 27 km per litre, plus traction control and a 360-degree sensor system.
All models come with a three-year/100,000 km warranty and additional benefits such as fitness-free periods and EMI facilities. Mohsin emphasized that Perodua cars provide Toyota reliability at accessible prices, filling a market gap for brand-new, dependable vehicles in Bangladesh.
