NBR further extends online tax return filing deadline

Business Report:

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has further extended the deadline for filing income tax returns online by another month. Although the original deadline was November 30, it was earlier extended to December 31 following requests from business owners and taxpayers.

With the new extension, individual taxpayers and Hindu Undivided Families will now have until January 31, 2026 to submit their returns for the 2025-26 tax year.

The announcement came on Sunday (December 28) through a notification signed by Md. Ekramul Haque, Second Secretary (Tax Law-1) of the NBR.

According to the notification, the extension has been issued in the public interest under the authority granted by Section 334 of the Income Tax Act 2023, following approval from the government.

NBR sources said that over one million taxpayers have already filed their returns online this tax year. The government officially launched the e-return platform on 4 August 2025, led by Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, to promote a simpler and more digital tax filing system.
