NBR opens holiday e-Return service to help election aspirants meet tax deadlines

Business Desk :

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has introduced special arrangements for filing e-returns during holidays to support individuals planning to contest in the upcoming national parliamentary election, ensuring they can meet essential tax compliance requirements ahead of the nomination process.
In a press release, the NBR said aspiring candidates will be allowed to submit their income tax returns online even on weekly holidays, a move aimed at easing pressure as election-related formalities accelerate.

To streamline the service, the e-Tax Management Unit of the revenue authority has set up a dedicated help desk at its office located at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in Dhaka.
The desk will provide technical guidance and assistance for completing and submitting income tax returns electronically.

According to the NBR, the help desk will remain open on December 26 (Friday) from 2:00pm to 5:00pm and on December 27 (Saturday) from 9:00am to 5:00pm, despite these being weekly holidays. In addition, the service will be available during regular business hours on December 28 and 29, allowing more flexibility for those rushing to fulfil documentation requirements.
Officials said the initiative is designed to accommodate the tight schedules of election hopefuls, many of whom are finalising paperwork and compliance matters before submitting their nomination papers. They added that the move is expected to benefit a significant number of prospective candidates nationwide, helping them avoid procedural delays during the election process.
The deadline for nomination submissions typically requires mandatory proof of income tax compliance, prompting the NBR to extend service availability and ensure that no eligible individual is held back due to holiday constraints.
