The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has uncovered the mystery behind the murder of a painter named Abrar Khan, who was abducted from Rajbari district and taken to Araihazar in Narayanganj, where he was killed and his head severed in an attempt to dispose of the body. The crime was reportedly committed over an extramarital relationship. One person involved in the incident has been arrested, and the victim’s severed head along with a machete used in the killing has been recovered.

The information was confirmed at a press conference held on Saturday (20 December) afternoon at the Narayanganj District PBI office by Superintendent of Police Mostafa Kamal Rashed. Earlier, on the morning of 16 December, police recovered the headless body of an unidentified young man from beside a road near a sand field in the Srinibashdi area of Araihazar upazila in Narayanganj. Later, the district PBI crime scene team conducted fingerprint analysis and identified the body as that of painter Abrar Khan. Following this, the victim’s father, Wazed Ali Khan, filed a murder case at Araihazar Police Station against unknown persons.

According to PBI, after the case was filed, the Narayanganj District unit of the Police Bureau of Investigation began a shadow investigation to uncover the truth behind the incident. As part of this process, on Friday night (19 December), Ruhul Amin Rabbi, who was involved in the murder, was arrested from Middle Badda in the capital. Based on information provided by him, investigators later recovered Abrar’s severed head and the machete used in the killing. At the press conference, PBI Superintendent of Police Mostafa Kamal Rashed said that in the early hours of 15 December, painter Abrar (Abraham) Khan left his home for Dhaka. At around 8:30 a.m., he spoke

on the phone with his sister for the last time. After that, his mobile phone was found switched off. During preliminary interrogation, the arrested Ruhul Amin Rabbi confessed to his involvement in the murder. PBI stated that Abrar was killed due to an extramarital relationship with Rabbi’s married maternal aunt. Preliminary investigation has also confirmed that several other members of Rabbi’s family were involved in the crime. The PBI
superintendent added that operations are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
