Tarique gets travel pass in hand

Staff Reporter :

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman applied on Thursday at the Bangladesh High Commission in London for a travel pass to return to the country on 25 December. He received the travel pass on Friday morning, local time in London.

Responsible BNP sources and a source at the Bangladesh High Commission in London confirmed the matter.

It is learned that due to political reasons, Tarique Rahman has been living in exile in London and did not receive a Bangladeshi passport after his previous one expired.

Although he had the opportunity to apply for passport renewal following the fall of the Awami League government during last year’s uprising, he did not do so.

Under the current circumstances, this is why he must return to Bangladesh using a travel pass as a Bangladeshi national.

Meanwhile, speaking to journalists at a views exchange meeting in Gulshan on Friday, BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed said the party people are preparing for receive the party’s acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

Salahuddin Ahmed said the party is coordinating with the government to ensure adequate security and logistical arrangements for his return.

“The government is cooperating on security-related issues,” Salahuddin said, adding that a reception programme for Tarique Rahman is scheduled to be held on 25 December at the capital’s 300-feet area.
