Shahid Mahmud Jangi’s 70th anniversary to be celebrated Dec 12

Shahid Mahmud Jangi is a popular lyricist of Bangladesh. Those who listened to the band’s songs in the 80s and 90s are more familiar with the name. Apart from Souls, Renaissance, LRB, he has written songs for many solo artistes.
He has written many timeless songs like ‘Hridoy Kadamatir Kono Murti Noy’, ‘Aj Je Shishu Prithibir Aloy Esechhe’, ‘Ami Bhule Jai Tumi Aamar Nou’, ‘Ek Din Ghumbhanga Shohore’, ‘Jatin Sir er Class e’, ‘Tritiyo Bishwa’, ‘Somoy Jeno Kate Na’. He is still writing.
Shahid Mahmud will turn 70 on February 6 next year. An event has been organised to celebrate the seven-decade life of this lyricist through songs and chats. The event titled ‘Apon Aloy Shahid Mahmud Jangi: Gaane Gaane Sottur’ to be organised by Ajob Karkhana on December 12.
The event will begin at 5:00pm at Russian House in Dhanmondi. After the introductory speech and the guests’ recollections about the lyricist, the cover of the memoir book titled ‘Apon Aloy Shahid Mahmud Jangi: Gaane Gaane Sottur’ will be unveiled.
Edited by Joy Shahriar, this book features memoirs about the lyricist by Naqib Khan, Samina Chowdhury, Faisal Siddiqui Bogi, Foad Nasser Babu, Kumar Bishwajit, Pilu Khan, Nasim Ali Khan, Partha Barua, Liton Adhikari Rintu, Golam Morshed, Bappi Khan and many others. It highlights various incidents from the lyricist’s life. At 6:30pm, songs written by Jangi will be performed by Rafiqul Alam, Nasim Ali Khan, Bappa Majumder, Pantho Kanai, Suman Kalyan, Joy Shahriar, Kishore Das, bands Souls, Renaissance and many others. The festival celebration committee includes
