Decisions on India will be taken if come to power: Fakhrul
Staff Reporter :
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said his party will take decision over relation with India.
The BNP leader came up with the remark while addressing a meeting in Thakurgaon on Tuesday.
Replying to a query over what the BNP’s position would be on balancing relations with India and other regional powers, as well as on border disputes if the party comes to power, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Let us come to power first-once we are in government, we will decide on these matters.”
He said this while speaking to journalists on Tuesday afternoon during a meeting with lawyers at the Thakurgaon District Lawyers’ Association auditorium.
“A democratic system is being established in the country and democracy is moving toward consolidation.
The interim government has announced a probable date for the election, and most political parties have submitted nominations for their candidates.
An electoral environment has begun to form. So the BNP is hopeful that the election will be held on February 26 without any trouble,” he said.
Responding to a question about the recent protests related to the withdrawal of BNP-nominated candidates in several constituencies, and on the overall law-and-order situation, he said, “BNP is like a flowing river.
In every constituency, there are four to five aspiring candidates. Anyone can hope for the nomination-that is normal. These incidents prove that BNP is a large political party.
BNP is ahead in the election and will remain far ahead. The country’s law-and-order situation is currently suitable and good for holding an election. There is no situation right now that could disrupt the polls.”
Regarding the government’s decision to hand over operations of Chattogram Port to a foreign company, Mirza Fakhrul said, “The current government thought it was a good idea, so they did it. When we come to power, we will do whatever we believe is good for the country.”
Speaking about the outline of state structure reform and changes to the fundamental framework of the constitution, he said, “When we come to power, these decisions will be taken in parliament.”
He also mentioned that various reforms and measures are being taken within the party to restore the young generation’s attraction toward the BNP.
Addressing issues of multiple BNP candidates campaigning in the same constituencies and scattered internal disputes, the Secretary General said, “BNP is a huge political party, like a flowing river.
In each seat, there are four or five candidates, so naturally some problems will occur. This has always happened. There is nothing wrong with it. Rather, it proves that BNP is a large political party.”
He added that BNP is not lagging in electoral campaigning-“we have been ahead for a long time.”
The meeting was presided over by District Lawyers’ Forum convener Yusuf Ali. Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Abdul Halim, Government Pleader (GP) Advocate Sarwar Hossain, Bar Association President Zainal Abedin, and General Secretary Mokdum Sabbir Mridul spoke at the event.
District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Paigam Ali, and other leaders and activists were also present.
