‘BNP considering bloc to promote nat’l unity’
Staff Reporter :
BNP senior leader Salahuddin Ahmed said on Monday that the party is actively exploring the formation of a broader political alliance ahead of the next national election to uphold the spirit of national unity.
“We’re considering building a wider coalition with the parties that have joined us in past simultaneous movements, as well as with others, so that together we can overcome the electoral challenges ahead,” he told reporters.
Salahuddin, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, made the remarks after paying tribute to party founder Ziaur Rahman by placing wreaths at his grave along with Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal leaders and activists on the occasion of the organisation’s 47th founding anniversary.
Asked about the BNP’s ongoing meetings with potential candidates at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office, Salahuddin said they are consulting all competent contenders in every constituency since multiple aspirants are vying for nominations in most areas.
“These meetings are part of our broader efforts to ensure unity – both within the party and across the nation,” he said. “We want to send a clear message that our strength lies in unity, not division.”
He stressed that national unity remains BNP’s greatest asset. “We’re determined to move forward together and not allow anyone to sow division. Our focus is on collective strength and shared purpose.”
Salahuddin also said BNP aims to reflect the hopes and aspirations of young people in its future vision.
“Our party is committed to building a new Bangladesh inspired by the ideas and dreams of the youth,” he noted.
He mentioned that BNP leaders have travelled across the country to engage with young citizens, listen to their perspectives, and design programmes that translate their aspirations into concrete plans for national rebuilding.
Expressing optimism about a youth-driven future, he said the BNP believes Bangladesh’s progress will be powered by the energy, innovation, and creativity of its younger generation.
“We envision a Bangladesh founded on employment, technology, and merit – in line with the dreams of the martyrs of our Liberation War and the July-August mass uprising.”
Thousands of Jubo Dal activists gathered at Ziaur Rahman’s grave to mark the occasion, offering floral tributes and prayers for the late president’s soul and the welfare of the nation.
