Tourism in Sylhet should be expanded by protecting natural resources -Divisional Commissioner

Sylhet Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi said that Sylhet is one of the tourist areas rich in natural resources. Tourism should be expanded here by protecting these natural resources. He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized by the district administration on the occasion of World Tourism Day-2025 on Saturday (September 27).
In the discussion meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Md. Sarwar Alam,
he said about the potential of tourism in Sylhet, the government has taken a big plan to further enrich the tourism sector. Various projects will be taken as part of this plan. If these projects are properly implemented, the tourism sector of Sylhet will further develop. He further said that there is immense potential for employment growth around the tourism sector. Therefore, we must work together to protect the tourist centers of Sylhet, not just by celebrating the day.
Earlier, World Tourism Day-2025 was inaugurated by releasing balloons at the district administration premises. Then a colorful rally started from the district administration premises and circled various places in the city and ended at the historic Queen Bridge. After the rally, the discussion meeting was held at Sarada Hall. Additional Divisional Commissioner (General and Revenue) Debjit Singh, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of Sylhet City Corporation Mohammad Rezai Rafin Sarkar, Chief Executive Officer of Zila Parishad Sandeep Kumar Singha and President of Sylhet Press Club Ikramul Kabir were present in the meeting. Divisional and district level officials and journalists from print and electronic media were also present.
In addition to rallies and discussions, special activities are conducted throughout the day to celebrate the day. These include awareness cycling, special cleanliness drive to remove single-use plastic, painting competition with the participation of students, interesting cultural programs, day-long tourism fair and displays installed at important points of the city and documentary screenings in the area adjacent to the Queen Bridge.
It is worth noting that since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has been celebrating World Tourism Day on September 27 every year.
