5 killed in separate road crashes

At least five killed and many others injured in two separate road crashes in the country’s Tangail and Rangpur on Thursday.

In Tangail, three people have died and one was injured in a collision between a pickup truck and a motorcycle in Dhanbari,. The identities of the victims have not yet been known.
The accident took place on Thursday morning in the Bilaspur Bottola area of the upazila.
Sub-Inspector Akram Hossain of the Dhanbari Police Station confirmed the matter to the media. He stated that two of the deceased were on the motorcycle, and the third was the driver of the pickup truck.

A rescue operation is currently underway at the scene, SI added.
Meanwhile, two persons were killed in another road accident in Rangpur’s Pirganj upazila on Thursday afternoon.

The accident took place near Bardorgah overpass in the upazila on the Rangpur-Bogura highway.
The deceased have been identified as Baizid, 20, son of Israfil Sheikh from Ulusara village in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur district, and Mushfiq, 22, son of Sohel Bepari from Paiksha village in Nawabganj upazila of Dhaka district.

According to eyewitnesses, a goods-laden covered van was heading toward Rangpur from Gazipur. On the way, it violently collided with a stationary excavator involved in road repair work near the overpass. The front of the van was completely smashed, killing both the driver and his assistant on the spot.

Police and Fire Service personnel later recovered the bodies.
Bardorgah Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Omar Faruk confirmed it and said the damaged van is in police custody. Legal proceedings are underway.
