Key figures inquire about Jamaat Ameer’s health
Special Correspondent :
Following reports of the deteriorating health of Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, several prominent political and military figures have extended their concern and well-wishes, sparking notable political attention.
Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunushas inquired about the health condition of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman who was admitted to Dhanmondi Ibn Sina Hospital after falling sick at Suhrawardy Udyan rally.
After visiting the hospital, the Chief Adviser’s press secretary said, “Chief Adviser has inquired about the health condition of Jamaat Ameer. As national elections ahead, we want political leaders of all parties to be healthy and well. Let everyone contribute to building the country.”
On Saturday afternoon, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman personally contacted Dr. Rahman by phone. According to sources, the Army Chief inquired about his health and expressed readiness to provide any necessary support for his treatment. Jamaat officials confirmed that the Ameer thanked the General for his gesture and goodwill.
Later in the evening, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir visited the hospital where Dr. Rahman is being treated. He was accompanied by senior BNP leaders including Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan and Prof. Jafarullah Khan. Mirza Fakhrul confirmed that he visited on direct instructions from BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, who himself had reportedly called to inquire about the Jamaat chief’s condition.
Dr. Rahman’s party released a statement expressing gratitude toward the BNP leadership, acknowledging the long-standing relationship and shared concern for national political unity and welfare.
In a separate development, Nahid Islam, Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), called Dr. Rahman late Saturday night to convey prayers and best wishes on behalf of his party.
Political analysts believe that this coordinated show of concern from both civil and military quarters reflects a broader atmosphere of dialogue and soft diplomacy among opposition-aligned leaders amid an evolving political landscape.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was recently released on bail after over a year in detention, and his health reportedly declined due to prolonged incarceration. Jamaat sources indicate that he is currently stable but under close medical observation.
