UNB, Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday rejected a plea from Munshiganj area to reconsider the plan to construct the Bangabandhu International Airport there, saying that it will be on the other side of the Padma River. The Prime Minister said this while holding a videoconference with Munshiganj and other districts of the country inaugurating four power generation and two transmission projects from her official residence Ganabhaban. During the videoconference, local MP of Munshiganj Mrinal Kanti Das and chairman of the Zila Parishad Mahiuddin Ahmed repeatedly requested her to reconsider the construction of the Bangabandhu International Airport in Munshiganj. “No, it will be constructed on the other side of the Padma River, from now on whatever will be built will be built on the other side of the Padma River,” she said categorically. After the ninth general election, the Awami League government had taken a plan to construct the Bangabandhu International Airport at Arial Beel of Munshiganj. But later the government back-tracked from their decision as the local people opposed it.
