Md. Mahfuz Alam has been appoin.ted as the new Information Adviser, assuming responsibility for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting following the resignation of Md Nahid Islam.
Nahid Islam stepped down from his position on Tuesday to lead a new political party, which is being established by leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
In response, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus entrusted Mahfuz Alam with the ministry’s leadership. The Cabinet Division issued an official notification confirming his appointment on Wednesday.
Prior to this role, Mahfuz Alam served as an adviser without portfolio in the interim government. He was previously a special assistant to Professor Muhammad Yunus and played a key role in the country’s recent student-led movement.
Notably, he was recognised as one of the masterminds behind the August 5 movement last year, which sought to unseat the Awami League government.
With his new appointment, Mahfuz Alam is expected to shape the nation’s information policies at a critical time, as the government navigates the political and social impact of recent student-led activism.
