BD women thrash Ireland in 1st ODI

Bangladesh Women’s Cricket team registered a massive 154-run victory over Ireland Women’s Cricket team in the first One Day International (ODI) match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Wednesday.

Electing to bat first, the Tigresses piled up a mammoth total of 252 for the loss of four wickets in the stipulated 50 overs and then shot out Ireland women for a paltry 98 off 28.5 overs.

Bangladesh women had a solid start as the two openers Fargana Haque and Murshida Khatun put on together 59 runs in the opening stand before Murshida Khatun was dismissed by Laura Delany.
Murshida Khatun made 38 from 61 deliveries featuring five fours.

After Murshida’s dismissal, Fargana Haque and Sharmin Akter built another partnership scoring together 104 runs in the second wicket stand before Fargana Haque was trapped leg before wicket by Aimee Maguire when Bangladesh’s total was 169 for the loss of two wickets.

Fargana Haque notched up a fine 61. He hit four fours in his 110-ball innings.

After Faragana’s departure, Sharmin Akter and Nigar Sultana contributed together 61 runs for the third wicket partnership before Nigar Sultana was dismissed by Freya Sargent when the hosts’ score was 224 for the loss of three wickets.

Nigar Sultana hit a run-a-ball 28 including three fours.
Sharmin Akter was a victim of nervous nineties. She was deprived from a century for just four runs. Sharmin hit a terrific 96. Her 89-ball knock was studded with 14 fours.

She was adjudged the Player of the Match for her outstanding batting display.

Sharmin was dismissed by Sargent when the home side’s total was 245 for the loss of four wickets.

Shorna Akter remained unbeaten with 13 runs, while Sobhana Mostary remained unbeaten with five runs.

Sargent bagged two wickets in the space of 51 runs, while Delany and Maguire took one wicket each conceding 38 and 62 runs respectively.
