Mushfiq first Bangladeshi to reach 6000 Test runs

Mushfiqur Rahim became the first Bangladeshi batter to reach the milestone of 6000 runs in the Test cricket on Tuesday during the course of his 31 not out against South Africa on Day 2 of the first cricket Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur.

The veteran batter needed 28 runs to achieve the feat when he came to bat in the second innings of Bangladesh. He completed the inevitable by reverse-sweeping Dane Piedt for a boundary behind point.

Mushfiqur’s 6000 runs feat came in his 172 innings of 93 Test matches. The next best was Tamim Iqbal’s 5134 runs in 134 innings of 70 Tests.

Only two other batters of Bangladesh could break the barrier of 4000 runs. Shakib Al Hasan made 4609 runs in 130 innings of 70 Tests while Mominul Haque scored 4269 runs in 123 innings of 66 matches.

Mominul has highest 13 centuries for a Bangladesh batter. Mushfiqur Rahim however hit 11 centuries and 27 half-centuries. Tamim Iqbal has 10 tons under his belt while Shakib hit five centuries.

Amongst the Bangladeshi batter who hit at least 2000 runs, Tamim Iqbal has best average -38.89. Mushfiqur Rahim is second to Tamim with 38.48 average. Both Shakib and Mominul has identical batting average of 37.77.
