A month-long national human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccination campaign will be held in Sylhet district from October 24 to prevent cervical cancer. Excluding Fridays and public holidays, every day for 18 days from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, students/teenagers (10-14 years) studying in classes 5th to 9th in various educational institutions and adolescent girls aged 10-14 years in non-educational institutions are completely free of cost HPV. Vaccination will be provided. 2 ,l4, 200 girls of Sylhet will get HPV vaccination

Through online registration through 17-digit birth registration and white listing of girls without birth registration, HPV vaccination will be given to girls for the first 10 days of the campaign at various educational institutions and permanent vaccination centers and for the next 8 days at permanent and temporary centers.

On the occasion of National HPV Vaccination Campaign, National Media Institute held an exchange meeting with journalists at the Sylhet District Commissioner’s office on Saturday under the awareness campaign program for child, adolescent, adolescent and women development.

Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Md. Golam Azam, said that cervical cancer is the second most common disease after breast cancer in Bangladesh. 8268 new women are diagnosed with this disease every year in the country and at least 4971 die annually. He said, HPV vaccination is globally tested, safe and effective in preventing cervical cancer. Cervical cancer can be prevented with one dose of HPV vaccine.

This is a new horizon in adolescent health care. Therefore, special care will be taken to ensure that no girl is left out of this vaccination. HPV is the most expensive of the EPI vaccines. This year’s target is to bring 95 percent of girls under vaccination.
