Prof Abu Ahmed joins as ICB chairman

Professor Abu Ahmed has joined as the chairman of the board of directors of Investment Corporation of Bangladesh (ICB) on Sunday.

He is a leading economist of the country and a capital market expert. He is the person who singly contributed significantly to the development of the capital market in Bangladesh. Educated at the Dhaka, Islamabad and York Universities. Professor Ahmed joined the economics Department of the University of Dhaka as lecturere in 1976 and taught extensively on varioius issues.

He held many important positions including the Chairman, Economics Department, University of Dhaka; Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Dhaka. Member, Revenue Reform Commission. He also held the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Govt. owned ‘Bangladesh Shilpa Bank’ (now Bangladesh Development Bank PLC).

He also held positions as Director, Chittagong Stock Exchange (nominated); Director, Bakrahbad Gas Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Petro Bangla; Member, the Syndicate of the Jagganath University; Member, Selection Committees for Professorships of the Rajshahi, Sylhet Shahjalal, Chittagong University; Member, Advisory Committee, of the BSEC. Professor Ahmed writes extensively on economic and capital market issues and his writings influence heavily the decision-making process of the policy makers.
