Mirpur slum catches fire

Fire broke out at a slum near Janata Housing in Mirpur-1 in the capital on Tuesday noon. Nazrul Islam of the control room of Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) said at least 12 units of firefighters rushed to the spot from the capital`s different places and headquarters and they are trying to douse the fire, till filing of this report. Police and local people also provided support in dousing the flames. Casualties and damages from the fire could not be known, as well as the cause of the fire, he also said. According to witnesses, there were 700 slum houses and most of them were gutted by fire.
