Two people were killed and scores injured in a tripartite clash among protestors, Awami League and police in Munshiganj headquarters on Sunday morning amid the ongoing ‘all-out non-cooperation’.

Though the identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, they were aged around 30 and 35 respectively.

A tense situation has been prevailing in and around the district town following the incident, reports UNB.

District correspondent reports from the spot that the protesters started gathering in Muktijoddha Sculpture near the SuperMarket area since 10am as per their schedule programme.

After a few minutes, fellows of the ruling Awami League’s student body Chhatra League and youth wing Jubo League equipped with weapons chased them and took control over the area.

Enraged by it, the protesters again chased them after reorganizing, resulting in chases and counter-chases in the area.

At one stage, police arrived on the spot and allegedly started firing with rubber bullet, charging batons and lobbing tear gas, leaving several people injured.

Later, the injured were rushed to Munshiganj Sadar Hospital where physicians declared two of them dead, reports the correspondent, adding that several crude bombs were exploded during the clash.

District Deputy Commissioner Md Abu Jafar Ripon said they learned about the deaths of two people in the clash.

He, however, said police have been instructed not to fire and they did so.
