Book review: ‘Puran er Somantorale’… a mythical quest

block

Wahida Misha :
Whether certain or uncertain, this
is an extraordinary journey in mythology, beginning with a cursed codex of the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl.
According to the sources of the codex, it will be known how
the gods Prometheus, Zeus and Brahma met with Quetzalcoatl!
What happened between them? Why they were talking about an unknown search? At the end of everything, the mystery remained! Greek, Indian and Aztec are three famous myths and their stories
are also known to people.
The stories of these popular
myths have something in common in the mystery of creation.
What the ‘Puran er Somantorale – Codex Quetzalcoatl, Brahma Ebong
Troy er Juddho’ does so well is an attempt to find the ‘Someone’
by reframing and reimagining
the familiar story by mixing together these three famous myths. Those who love ‘Mythology’
or ‘Puran’, will surely love to
join this exceptional journey.
S M Niaz Mowla’s first book on mythology, ‘Greek Mythology – Adi Theke Anto’, was published in 2017. His ‘Mythology – Adi Theke Anto’ series of books are informative
and research based books on
specific mythology details,
which will undoubtedly serve as
reference. He has been working
for a long time to make this
genre popular. But this is his
first mythology-fiction.
Pseudo myths are wonderfully and successfully created in
‘Puran er Somantorale’ by retelling and blending Purans from different regions. Generally, this kind of
fiction writing by blending the
stories of popular mythology
is less common, because a deep understanding of the mythologies
is required. Author Niaz Mowla is a doctor by profession says that the story he created by bringing together the mythologies of the Aztecs, Greeks and Indians, has a inner
message in it. That is why it
was not very easy to analyze and research these matters in depth.
He intends to write more about this experimental subject.
He also said that the writing will be worthwhile only if the reader understands that message. ‘Puran er Somantorale – Codex Quetzalcoatl, Brahma Ebong Troyer Juddho’
published in Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2024. With the book with
quality printing and bindings is
published by Ajab Prokash.
