A trawler capsized with at least 110 passengers on board at Kutubdia channel of the Bay of Bengal around 10:00am on Thursday. At least 36 people have been rescued so far by the joint effort of Coast Guard, police and locals. Police said the trawler was going to Malaysia illegally with the passengers on board. Confirming about the trawler capsize, MA Hasem, a Sub Lieutenant of Coast Guard, said the rescue operations are continuing. Angsai Thoi, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kutubdia Police Station, said a total 36 people were rescued and it is assumed that more than a hundred people were on board. Meanwhile, a rescue ship of Coast Guard ‘Tanvir’ is going towards the spot in a bid to salvage the sunken trawler, informed a Coast guard source.
