BNP issues ultimatum to release Khaleda Zia in 48hrs

Thousands of leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) join their scheduled rally in front of party headquarters at Nayapaltan on Sunday demanding Khaleda Zia's treatment abroad within 48hrs.

Staff Reporter  :
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has given an ultimatum to the government to release BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment in Evercare Hospital, and send her abroad for medical treatment.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir came up with the ultimatum from a rally in the capital on Sunday.

“Khaled Zia should be released within the next 48 hours,” he said from the rally arranged in front of the party’s Naya Paltan office demanding unconditional release of its Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and sending her abroad for better treatment. Fakhrul addressed the rally as chief guest.

He said: “Release Khaleda Zia quickly, not only America, but also the people of the country are giving you sanctions to hold elections under a caretaker government.”

Fakhrul said that the BNP chairperson is suffering from various ailments and the physicians warned that her physical condition is not stable.

“There is no treatment for her in Bangladesh. It may be difficult to save her unless she is taken abroad,” said the BNP leader.

Regarding the election, he claimed, when the Awami League saw that it could not win the election under the caretaker government, they canceled it in the parliament.

Regarding the US visa restrictions policy, Fakhrul said that she (Sheikh Hasina) said she will not go to America again, but the visa policy was implemented while she was in America.

The visa policy is humiliating for an independent sovereign country like Bangladesh, he said.

Meanwhile, Mirza Abbas claimed that bureaucrats are holding meetings in different places – Awami League should be kept in power at any cost.

Government officials involved in forced disappearance, murder and corruption are so desperate to keep Awami League in power that Awami League is not as much desperate.

The rally started at 3pm on Sunday. Other BNP standing committee members and senior leaders also addressed the rally.

Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP convener Abdus Salam presided over the rally.

Law and order forces are on alert in the adjoining areas centring the protest rally.

Dhaka Metropolitan South and North BNP jointly organized this rally. Earlier, after 12:30 noon, the leaders and activists of BNP, Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal and Swechchasebak Dal from different areas of the capital gathered at Naya Paltan with small processions.
