Situation turns worse: 4 die of dengue in 24hrs

The dengue situation turns worse in the capital as rainy seasons started in the country. Almost every day hospitals are reported fresh deaths caused by dengue raising the death toll to the despair of people.
Furthermore, four dengue patients died and 477 patients were admitted to hospitals in the country during the past 24 hours till 8am Saturday (17 June), recording the highest number of deaths and hospitalisation in a single day this year.

Among the fresh dengue cases, 402 were reported in Dhaka, while 75 were from outside the capital, said a bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Currently, 1,138 dengue patients are taking treatment at different hospitals across the country and 911 of them are from Dhaka.
Since January this year, a total of 4,603 patients were admitted to different hospitals with dengue and 3,432 of them have recovered.
With the latest addition, the death toll from the viral fever this year rose to 33.

Kabirul Bashar, Entomologist and professor of the department of Zoology Jahangirnagar University, said the number of patients will increase at a massive rate in the next few days due to rain.
Kabirul Bashar suggested dengue hotspot management immediately and collecting addresses of dengue patients to clear their houses of mosquitoes.
Alongside monthly jumps in dengue cases, this year has also broken all records in both the number of cases and deaths compared to the same period in previous years.
As many as 33 people have died of dengue so far this year when there was none this time last year.

A total of 4,603 dengue patients have been hospitalised across the country so far this year, but only 690 were hospitalised in the same period last year.
