UNB, Dhaka :
Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) on Friday condemned Thursday’s police raid on the Daily Inqilab office and the arrest of its journalists.
Expressing resentment at the incident, BFUJ president Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, its general secretary Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, and DUJ president Omar Faruk and its general secretary Shaban Mahmud, in a joint statement, demanded immediate release of the arrested journalists.
They also urged the Inqilab authorities to follow responsible journalism and refrain from journalism which goes against the country’ s independence and sovereignty.
Hours after the daily ran a report on the participation of Indian forces in the joint forces’ operation in Satkhira, police launched a raid on vernacular daily at the city’s RK Mission Road on Thursday evening and held four of its journalists.
The detained journalists were News Editor Rabiul Islam Robi, Chief Reporter (Current Charge) Rafique Mohammad, Diplomatic Correspondent Ahmed Atique and Staff Reporter Afzal Bari.
The vernacular newspaper published the report titled ‘Assistance of Indian forces in the joint forces’ operation in Satkhira: Foreign Ministry’s denial’ in its Thursday’s issue.
