Bangladeshi GM Ziaur Rahman upset tournament’s 4th seed GM Andrei Istratescu of France (rating 2667) in the 6th round match of the 16th Dubai Open Chess Championship held in Dubai, UAE on Saturday.
After the 6th round matches, Zia shared the 3rd place with 12 other players securing 4.5 points while French Grandmaster Romain Edouard topped the list with 5.5 points.
In the 6th round match, Zia played with white pieces in the Asian biggest chess event and smashed the Modern Defense of Andrei Istratescu in the 72nd move.
In 23rd moves, Zia sacrificed one pawn and tried to attack in 55th move.
Zia sacrificed another pawn and got super attacking position and finally won the match in 72nd moves.
